Iraq awaits resumption of shipments of live cattle in Para

SAO PAULO – The Iraq looks forward to the resumption of shipments of live cattle in port Vila do Conde in Barcarena. Operations in the cradle 302 of the port, where is exported cattle standing, have been stalled since early October due to the sinking of a ship with 5000 animals belonging to Minerva Foods.

According to information from the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Iraq, from January to the accident the Middle Esatern country imported 11,548 brazilians live cattle. When operations at the port back to normal, some 9,000 animals to be shipped. In total, the sale of those over 20 thousand heads are valued at about US$ 18 million.

As already reported the Value, becuase of the environmental and social damage caused by accident, exporters of live cattle (Minerva leads this ranking) will have to pay an interim rate of R$5 per ton shipped in Vila do Conde to offset the problem. There is no provision for the regularisation of the transaction.
